Red-Dome Blanket Flower…?

Hmm…I’m not sure, but I’m inclined to say, “Not,” as the petals look different than what they should.  At any rate, these appear to be part of the Asteraceae  family…and I found them in the meadows of Walnut Canyon and in the dry bed of Marshall Lake…both in northern Arizona, just south and east of Flagstaff.

  3. I don’t know anything about Arizona wildflowers but they do look familiar.

    • These are still new to me, Allen…I hope to collect more identification resources in the months to come….

  6. So easy on the eye, Scott, ………..sweet smelling meadow in the haze of summer.

    • Thank you, John…there was actually a bit of haze from the controlled burn in the forest several miles down the road, but with slightly overcast skies and a trace of wood-smoke in the air, it was a pleasant hike…and a nice little treasure finding these collected as they were.

Beautiful! I can almost imagine that it wasn’t hot when you shot these. Was it?

    August 12, 2014 at 11:17 am

    • Hello, LB…it was actually a cooler day for me up there near Flagstaff…I just checked the weather almanac and it said that it only reached 80 degrees that day. Flagstaff’s official elevation is 6,190 feet, so it’s going to be much cooler than the pan of desert that is Phoenix…which is why I’m going to be driving 90 minutes or more to go hiking during the warmer months…. :)
