Arizona Sunrise

Driving home from a visit to Phoenix last month, we had to stop the truck in a hurry to try to capture as much of this as possible.  We were still about 40 miles south of Flagstaff and the road was winding and dipping around and below trees and rocks…and after probably another half mile or so, I was finally able to find a relatively unobstructed view of this amazing sunrise.

  1. I love how it looks like it’s rolling in.

    • Thank you, Marcy…and you’re correct. It was incredible to be standing there along the side of the freeway with the crisp morning air about us while watching the colors grow and change right before us…so wonderful…amazing. 🙂

Isn’t that frustrating when you see something incredible while you’re driving but either there’s no place to pull over, or you can’t get a good view? Glad you found a clearing!

    • It is frustrating, indeed, James. I’m very happy we came to that clearing…. Thank you. 🙂

  16. Hello Scott, you did very well to capture those wonderful colours.

I was in the same situation a couple of evenings ago. After watching my son do his tang su do training the sky was the same colours as your first picture above, so I peddled like a mad thing to get home in time to get a photograph, but after around 5 minutes the sky was completely grey again. It made me wish I’d just stood and looked at it.

Oh well, next time. And the great thing is, I know there will be a next time!

    • Hi Finn…thank you for the nice words…and I do know the feeling of having to rush home for the camera to capture the shot before it disappears. And I think you’re right about this particular instance…it might have been better to simply stand there and absorb it while you could. Yes, there will be a next time! Make sure you have your camera to hand!! 🙂
