The view from Mt Raymond
Mt Raymond is easily recognized from many locations within the Wasatch Mountains. You might remember that there are three major canyons in the section of the Wasatch range that forms the eastern geographic boundary of Salt Lake City…Millcreek, Big Cottonwood, and Little Cottonwood…from north to south…and they all lie in an east/west orientation. Mt Raymond lies somewhat near the middle of the ridge that separates Millcreek and Big Cottonwood Canyons. While I had hiked around it three times and had stared at it so many more, I had never set-out to actually climb to the top of it…until the end of October of this year. This post doesn’t highlight the hike itself…it shows what can be seen from the trail up to, and from the summit. Beautiful country, Scott. How long a hike was it to the summit from the road-head?

Hello, Andy – it is indeed beautiful, whether along the trails or up on the mountain tops…. The on-line literature reports that this is about a seven-hour, round-trip hike. I happened to take a detour from the main trail so that I could visit another minor peak that I had never seen before, so between that little detour and my requisite stops to make photos of the mountains and berries and other associated wonderfulness out there, it took me just under four hours to make it to the top. The elevation gain from trail-head to summit is reported at 3,140 ft (957 m)…and it’s a bit under 9.5 miles altogether. It makes for a nice Sunday morning hike. 🙂

You’re getting to be quite the mountain climber. Mt Whitney next? Then on to Denali, perhaps Everest?? Loving the sights you bring back with you. Funny how I tend to orient where you are from the peek at the Oquirrhs (and SLC).

I’m very happy that you enjoy the images that I bring back, also…do know that I often think of you and your love for the Oquirrhs when making and processing images of them…while you’re not actually out there hiking with me, you’re in my thoughts. 🙂
