Verde River Canoes

It is near amazing to my green and mountain-loving heart to see such greenery smack-dab in the middle of the Arizona desert, but there it is.  I made this image from the bridge crossing the river during the same excursion with my little one in which we were not allowed to share the trail with the uncompromising rattlesnake….  Wishing a happy Friday to everyone…..

  3. I hope you haven’t seen any of the flooding we’ve been hearing about, Scott.

    • We’ve had two major flooding incidents in the past two months and they both missed causing any problems for our household…aside from extensive delays in freeway traffic because of closures, etc…but that is negligible compared to the difficulties they caused for many other people here. I have thought of you, Allen, and your “Forest Forensics” book, when I’ve examined the aftermath of the floods in our normally dry riverbeds and nearby flood plains…marveling at how clean certain areas of the desert floor are now and how the other evidence of the absent flood remains for weeks (and likely longer) afterward.

    • Much more than I remember from times past, Terry…lots of fresh green growth on the desert trees and bushes right now…new grass and wildflowers scattered along roadways and in certain areas of the desert, too…like a second Spring.
