I made this image a couple of weeks ago…on the day that happened to be one year exactly since I had taken my last hike in the Wasatch Mountains near Salt Lake City, Utah. Oh, how the scenery has changed in that passing of time!!

I was marveling today at the changes since I arrived 5 weeks ago. The cacti are blooming, there are spring flowers everywhere I look. Not looking forward to returning to NH and the snow! Is that Saguaro NP?

Yes, the desert is waking. I haven’t seen any cactus blossoms up here, but there have been plenty of wildflowers coming out. I hope to have a post of what I’ve found pretty soon. And no, I’m sure that you’re not looking forward to the snow in NH after spending the winter down here. Hopefully things will be mostly cleared-up by the time you get back there. No, the image is not of Saguaro National Park…that’s down around Tucson…I made this image while hiking in the desert about 15 miles north of where I live on the extreme north side of Phoenix. I guess you could say that this area is the eastern foothill region of the Bradshaw Mountains.

Oh, I am drinking in that green! It is just GORGEOUS! (can you tell we’re starved for color in the NE 🙂 still no sign of the ground here…)

Yes, that green is rather marvelous, isn’t it? I remember craving it around this time of year when I lived in SLC…while I loved the snow, I longed for the clear trails and the bright green of Spring….. I hope it arrives soon for you……

And there is definitely a sweet and verdant aroma in the air when you’re out there in the early morning…if an aroma can be verdant (I think it can!) a chilled lightness that fades as the earth warms with the rising sun.

It’s nice to see some green. Does it stay that way all summer I wonder, or does it turn brown?

The green is not near as bright and the grasses are brown in the summer…and the heat is radiating back up at you from the earth…draining you of water and exhausting you…..

The pre-summer mornings are very nice out there, Terry….green rolling hills with so many different kinds of rock thrown into the mix. 🙂

So entirely different from that year gone past. Them Saguaros don’t provide much shade in that hot, dry climate. The green is rather unexpected, though.

Yes, Gunta…so entirely different….and no, not much shade out there, either…and when you do find a spot, you have to watch-out for sharp rocks and cactus spines…and snakes……. 😉

Lush landscape in the desert, so green! Dense area of saguaros, will be beautiful when they are in bloom!
