  1. Very nice shot.

. . . the Oak leaf on the left and 3/4 of the way up is slightly out of place, but otherwise an excellent composition.

    • Thank you, Emilio…I wondered if anyone would notice…. 🙂

      • Are you kidding? I’ve been a high-ranking member of both the Anal Retentive and OCD-R-Us crowds for more years than I can remember. How many years?

Wait, I wrote it down, using a blue Pilot roller ball pen, on February 29th, at 7:05:37 a.m. . . . or was it 7:05:38 a.m.? Damn! . . . let me check database LP-4-PCOICA-Rev.2.5 and make sure.

        • I was going to say that I wondered who would be the first to notice…but then there was no wondering, really…. 🙂

          • You know, in all seriousness, I cracked the joke because my eye did jump to the yellow oak leaf teetering on the edge of the trunk. It caught my attention, and still draws my attention away from the photo as a whole.

The first thing I thought of was that it was out of place . . . the rest is history.

There are interesting studies showing how people raised in western cultures tend to look at prominent details, and often miss the whole or the background. People from eastern cultures tend to look at both subjects and their surrounding.

          • Well that’s very interesting, Emilio…I’ve looked at the photo a dozen times now and don’t find my eyes jumping to that leaf…and I love your pinterest post…. My eye was drawn to the obvious and ample center of the photograph…but yes, I suppose there IS a dog in the car…. 🙂

          • I can’t even find an oak leaf!?
these look suspiciously like maple leaves to me…. hmmn….

            September 4, 2012 at 1:30 pm

          • I looked and looked, as well…I think there was a twisted leaf or a couple of them lying very close together…not sure. 🙂

  3. I didn’t even notice the oak leaf — but I’m an emotional observer — maybe more like the Eastern Folk ~? Lovely shot Scott — Preview to Fall… feels like summer just came too! Sending good thoughts :)~ RL

    • Thank you, Miss Robyn…I had to look pretty closely, too. 🙂 And yes, it does feel like summer hasn’t been here that long, although I have been anticipating the cooler temps already. Thank you for the good thoughts, as well…and the same to you, Lady. 🙂

  4. James O.

Thanks Scott. I already want it to be fall already, and this photo is making me more impatient.

    September 3, 2012 at 11:04 am

    • You’re very welcome, James…I’m getting anxious for the cooler temps and changing colors, too.

  5. I had dry leaves that had recently fallen from a maple crackling under my feet this morning.

    September 3, 2012 at 11:37 am

    • I think there’s something wonderful about that, Allen. 🙂

  7. Maple leaves are so colourful………when ours fall they are mainly brown and wrinkly……………..anyway, hold your horses Scott, we’re still waiting for summer to arrive. … 🙂
Am I correct in thinking that this lovely shot was taken last year, isn’t it a bit early for the fall in your neck of the woods?

    September 3, 2012 at 1:47 pm

    • I shall hold those horses, John…don’t want you to get cheated out of your summer. 🙂

And yes, this shot is from October of last year…seemed like a nice welcome photo for the season, given that the maples are starting to turn on our mountains already.

  8. Hey – don’t mention the word. So far September has started with 2 out of 3 days of sun. We might just get what we call an Indian Summer over here in the UK – so Autumn may be delayed.

    September 3, 2012 at 2:05 pm

    • Okay, okay, Andy…not trying to rush things…we just seem to have a bit of color-changing on the mountains already. Everyone needs their summer, especially when they’ve had such a long wet season…. 🙂

      September 4, 2012 at 6:55 am

  9. Happy September…. 😉

  10. Just fabulous ! I’ll be in the Shenandoah Mountains in 6 weeks and can’t wait for autumn!

    September 3, 2012 at 6:01 pm

    • Thank you, Bella…maybe we’ll see some photos from your time there? 🙂

      September 4, 2012 at 6:57 am

  11. What a lovely fall photo! I don’t like fall colors of orange and rust and colors in that range, but this is fresh and soft and has cooler colors. I really like this one.

    September 3, 2012 at 9:27 pm

    • I’m glad you like it, George…it’s one of the brighter shots from that particular hike. 🙂

    September 4, 2012 at 12:15 pm

    • Thank you, Steven…it’s a beautiful time up here.

      September 5, 2012 at 7:08 am

  14. Like a freshly woven carpet for you to walk over, Scott.

    September 4, 2012 at 1:31 pm

    • Almost felt guilty walking over it, Karen…. 🙂

      September 5, 2012 at 7:09 am

  15. I say: no, no, not yet. But very nice photo, Scott.

    September 4, 2012 at 3:32 pm

    • Maybe it will wait a little longer for you over there, Bente…and thank you. 🙂

      September 5, 2012 at 7:10 am

  16. Very pretty Scott, but too soon. It’s supposed to get down into the 20’s here tonight too.

    September 11, 2012 at 9:29 pm

    • Wow…down to the 20s so soon…is that typical for Montana in mid-September?

      September 12, 2012 at 8:00 am

      • Not unusual.

        September 12, 2012 at 9:18 am

        • It must get incredibly cold in the depths of your winter, then, if it gets so low in September. Wow….
