Yet another form of driftwood (though it don’t look to be drifting too far). Was this taken during a winter inversion? I always thought about going out to Antelope Island, but somehow never made it there.

Yes, indeed, driftwood of a sort…and no…not during a winter inversion…actually took the photo about 10 days ago…so maybe a late-summer inversion? I’ve been out there twice, now, and have had a bit of the murky air both times….

I like the effects used in this to make the wood stand out. But I like driftwood anyway.

Thank you, Allen…we weren’t even out to the island yet and had to stop for this one. I don’t know for sure if this stump “drifted” here or if it is a relic from another time, as there seems to be very little wood out there, but it sure gives the impression of having drifted for a bit…very weathered.

Wow, great shot, and what enormous spaces you have out there…. is that mountain an island? ………..and do I detect birds on the water.
A lovely 3D feel about this ……….and dense air……..is this in the hot or the cool season Scott.

Thank you, John…and yes, there are some rather enormous spaces out here. That is a bit of a mountain out there on the island, too. The Great Salt Lake has a current elevation of about 4,100 feet (1,250 meters) and the highest point on the island is about 6,600 feet (2,012 meters). The state park literature says that around 250 bird species visit the island during their annual migration…so yes, there were a few birds out there, too. I actually took the photo 10 days ago…and it was a little warm. That haze could be left-over smoke from the fires here in the western states…or just some bit of crud hanging about waiting for another weather system to blow it into some other part of the country. 🙂

Thank you, Finn. I’ve only seen smaller trees, rather stocky bushes, like this one would be…and one rotting log that would have been a very large/tall tree…so I really don’t know how forested it might have been. There certainly isn’t anything resembling a forest today….
