  1. lot going on here to feast your eyes upon – which I like I have messed about with HDR (only occasion) on this type of image but couldn’t make it look natural

    • Thank you, Scott…and yes, there is quite a visual feast here….

  2. The scene reminds me of one out of a fairy tale…I expect a wolf to come popping out from somewhere…

    • Funny you should say that, Nancy…when I was returning from the hike, but still within this stretch of the canyon, I saw a man and woman sitting on a large rock with a bit of a ledge in front of them, and as I rounded the little corner in front of them, their HUGE dog lunged at me, barking…a “greeting,” his owners said…. It rather startled the hell out of me. 🙂

      • Be careful out there Scott…you never quite know what will happen…life imitates art all the time. 😉

        • Thank you, Nancy…I’ll try to keep a better eye out for big, bad wolves and such. 😉

  4. Now THIS is a wonderful place to get away to. 🙂 Such spectacular colors and lines. A very calming image. Just lovely! I see just the rock I’d like to sit on. 🙂

    • Thank you very much, Melanie…and it is/was such a wonderful place…appeals in a way that is different than the somber and fog shrouded hillside with the wonderfully silhouetted trees. I’m glad you enjoyed the photo…and happy that you found your rock to sit on for a while. 🙂

  5. The enchanted forest, but also this brings to mind something mysterious and rather desolate.

    October 26, 2012 at 10:24 am

    • Yes, I suppose there is a sense of mystery and desolation out there, too, Andy. On my way out on the hike, I only encountered one person…so I had the whole forested canyon to myself…but it was an enjoyable alone-ness…didn’t feel much of the desolation.

  6. Simply lovely! The muted colors make it seem so ‘enchanted’ (you captured the right word for sure). Is that a creek bed come springtime?

    October 26, 2012 at 11:40 am

    • Thank you very much, Gunta…and the “enchanted” part actually came from my son (commenting below as “Nut Balls”)…he hiked the canyon before I did and said I really needed to go there because it looked just like an enchanted forest. I couldn’t help but agree….

And yes, that is a creek bed that you see there. It was still running very quietly with just enough to make an occasional sound…and I’m sure it will be going a bit stronger when the snow-melt is here in six months or so….

  7. That is really lovely; it beckons one in ……..

    • Thank you, Meanderer…and I agree…it does really beckon one in…so inviting….

  8. I remember when I was a boy the Casper the Friendly Ghost comics almost always mentioned The Enchanted Forest. I always wanted to go there then, and still do now-especially if it looks like your picture.

    • I remember that, too, Allen…and I do hope this is what it looked like. 🙂

  9. Nut Balls

I take it that description fit in your mind, as well? Beautiful picture…and, you’re right. Less leaves than just days earlier when I visited, like you said 😉

    • Oh, yes, Nate…most appropriate. Thank you for the nice words…and yes, given what was on the ground when I was there, I could imagine that there was so much more on the trees when you were there earlier in the week…funny what a handful of days can do for something like this. It was a wonderful hike…. 🙂
